Program works good for the initial Will and other documents, does not load current state statues. We took it to a local lawyer he said it was a good start, but not "upholdable" in MN as it was. The bank said the same thing. It did save some money at the lawyer by having the basics done already. I would recomend this to others, but I would also make sure they have it checked by a lawyer.

This is the IDEAL product for those of us that itemize on our federal returns and whose state filing is online, free, and easy (and computer literate enough to use it).

This is the best value by far! Sure, it does not do state returns. However, many state returns are no-brainers once you've got your federal printout. My state return is usually done and filed in 10 minutes via their website.

Now Turbotax Federal + State is the way to go if your state does not have a website for filing returns. However, if your state does, save yourself $36 (between the two e-filing fees for state and federal) and buy this one. However, if you don't understand computers, your returns are complicated, or you don't think you can figure out how to do it for free, then get the other version and pay more money.

Every April, Uncle Sam shoves his hands down my pockets and yanks out my disposable income by the short and curly roots. And what can I do about it? My 'documentation' is a four-year-old tax return and three Burger King lunch receipts. Somehow, being lazy and disorganized and awful with money and numbers and planning has turned around to bite me in the butt. Well, this year I decided to do something about it.

Clearly, I need all the state-of-the-art tax help I can get. And this 'TurboTax' gizmo seems to be popular with the revenuer dodgers and fancy suits these days, so I gave it a whirl. I just failed to notice that this version is from sixteen freaking years ago, and therefore not as much help in tax prep as, say, a rusty abacus and a bonk on the head.

I've used TaxCut going back to "Managing Your Money" days. I've occasionally used competitor Turbo Tax when they gave me free software but have never found benefit of the latter to justify the added cost. TaxCut is relatively intuitive and interfaces well with financial software including Quicken and does a good job of pulling in data from the previous year.

Turbo Tax state is an essential addendum to the federal version. With the same ease of use -- in Q & A format -- as Turbo Tax, Turbo Tax state transfers your data from your federal return to the state. It takes the mental taxation of the process and turns it into a few easy keystrokes.

Audit advice, deductions and charitable contributions are also an option when you do your state taxes with TT state.

My one complaint is that there is an electronic filing fee -- why isn't this free? If Turbo Tax can file my return online, why can't I do the same thing -- by emailing or transmitting an electronic file through my franchise tax board?

I bought this software last year and thought it was pretty good. As someone else mentioned navigation through the software is an area that can be a little annoying, but it is not very hard to use. For the average person (I cannot speak of those with extremely complicated returns) it is more than adequate and much cheaper than taking your taxes to someone to do.

Review : Pocket Quicken does what I wanted.
The software was simple to install and works fine. I needed a way to maintain my checking account and Pocket Quicken fills the need. It allows me to keep up with my checking account, and several credit card accounts. At the end of the day, I always know exactly what I have spent without a lot of hassle or fuss. I simply hot sync and then open Quicken. That is all that I wanted and it supplied my need. I have had the program for about three months and have had absolutely no problems.

I just purchased the software and successfully installed it on my computer. When I got to the point of entering dividends and capital gains, I couldn't figure out how to import the data from Fidelity that I've done for the last few years. Looking around on the Fidelity website, I can across the following statement: "For the 2005 tax year, Fidelity information will not be able to be imported directly into H&R Block's TaxCut programs. H&R Block expects that these products will have this functionality restored for the 2006 tax year." Unfortunately, this is the reason I'm using a software tax prep program, looks like it's back to TurboTax!

Review : A Very Good Suite of Products For Home
All three of these items have proven very useful for home use. I have been a Quicken user for years, and the 2001 edition is well worth the purchase. Turbo Tax Deluxe is worth the extra cost over standard Turbo Tax because one electronic filing and one individual state filing is included. You have to pay additional money in the standard package for those features. Plus, in the deluxe version there is great and useful tax information and assistance. The Family Lawyer is also well worth the investment. My wife and I saved the expense of hiring a lawyer to draft our wills, plus we were able to develop a few other legalese forms for childcare and the like. No telling how much money that saved us. This suite is worth dishing out a few bucks to have in your office.

I like games, then I don't. I get into them for a week and then I don't touch them for months to possibly a year. So for game to grab my attention for over 40 hours is quite the accomplishment. Whether you buy the game here, or over the Steam Store (when it's on sale, as I did) you will get a game that will take hours from your life. I played for an few hours and died. Then played for a few more hours and died. Finally I buckled down, started to figure out everything that I could. And slowly started taking over nations. Building an army, converting religions. It truly is the "grand daddy" of strategy games. I despised Cix 4 (I like 5 however) but loved this game. I have since stopped playing it, but trust me, at some point I will gladly take over another campaign and another 20 to 40 hours of my life.

Review : Quicken Users Don't Waste Your Money On This Upgrade
Summary: If you are new to Quicken, it is a very good program and worth using. However, Quicken 2012 has very few changes over 2011 and is an unnecessary upgrade.

I have been using Quicken for at least the past ten years. I have upgraded each year or two and by the 2010 upgrade I was becoming frustrated with the program because it was becoming slower and less user friendly. Then I read that Quicken had purchased "Mint", an online product, and had hired the founder of Mint to upgrade the Quicken product. I purchased Quicken 2011 and was extremely pleased with changes. The format was much easier to use and the program was beginning to be more flexible.

I have used Quicken 2011 extensively over the past year and throughout that time I was anxiously awaiting Quicken 2012. I've been using Quicken 2008 and decided to buy and download Quicken 2010 this afternoon. After installing I was very disappointed to find that the free online version actually was better suited for my needs than the purchased copy. The online version has more options with my bank (it can pull loan infomation while the Deluxe edition cannot) and I don't use many of the other features that warrant the cost of this one.

I decided that I would ask for the refund that is advertised with the product:

I'm very happy with this product. I purchased an extra seat so four people can use it at once and it was a breeze to install on our newer computers all running Windows 7. It was also super easy to register, except for the fourth license because I ignored what I was told on the phone by the person that was helping me. Once I called back and followed their instructions it was fine. I always leave my version up and running, although the other users only log on when they need to use it and none of us have had any problems in the month since I purchased it. I like the new features and am glad I upgraded. We were running into some bugs with 2010 that aren't present in 2012. The program fits well with our needs and this was our third time upgrading to a newer version. The software improvements aren't worth upgrading each year, but every few years, so we should be set until 2014 or 2015.

I am a small business farm owner who owns QuickBooks for the Mac 2009. When Lion came out, instead of upgrading its software to work with Lion like ALL my other software makers, Intuit chose to force me to buy a new copy of their software. On their website, where the cost of their software is so much higher than on Amazon, they offer a $30 upgrade discount that brings the cost of the new product to a sum still higher than I can buy a new copy on Amazon. Because my accountant uses QuickBooks, they have me over a barrel and are using that advantage to extort me to buy another copy rather than supporting 2 year software, a fact that infuriates me. On top of that, my wife uses Quicken for the Mac 2007. She tried to upgrade to a more recent version but found the new versions don't offer bill-pay integrated into the accounting registers like the old software. Why? Because Intuit now offers a $9.95 PER MONTH service that does bill pay. Clearly being able to force users to pay $119.40...

I am Donna's husband and I got Microsoft Streets & Trips 2011 with the USB GPS receiver a few days ago. I didn't really notice any changes between the 2009 version and the 2011 version of Streets & Trips. Just newer maps. I give the software 5 stars.

The GPS receiver that comes with Streets & Trips is the "u-blox 5 GPS and GALILEO Receiver" by ublox. [...] I downloaded the "u-center GPS evaluation software" [...] and installed in on my desktop computer and my Acer netbook computer. I then plugged the USB GPS receiver into each computer and, using the u-center software, monitored the GPS receiver's performance. Here is what I found:

The GPS receiver would not lock up when plugged directly into the netbook no matter how long I left it. It would find one or two satellites but that was all. When I connected it to the netbook using the included USB extension cable, it would lock up in 5 - 10 minutes. After it got a lock, it's performance seemed about as good...

Review : Schedule K-1 and general instructions.
1. Schedule K-1. Problem: I have a partnership K-1 which was liquidated on 12/31/2005, reported on 2005 tax return. Schedule K-1 was received at the end of 2006 for this property showing residual action of $36 normal income and a distribution of $186 pertinent to the liquidated property sold in 2005. Turbotax is not clear about handling this type of activity when it is not termed as long term capital gain. The worksheet forms seem to be inadequate for this situation. When an override is done to place the $36 on page 1 of the form 1040 electronic filing is not allowed. I sent an email to Turbotax and received an acknowledgment but no suggestions. I used an override and filed my return by mail. The reason I purchased Turbotax Premier TY2006 was because it was advertised as being able to handle Schedule K-1 information.

2. It seems that the explanation of the importance the worksheets and their relationship to the population of the various required forms should be emphasized...

So Amazon started selling the digital download on Oct 1, the physical item starts shipping Oct 4 and the product still isn't called out on the manufacture's website. Select a product from their product list and it still takes you to the 2011 version. Can't be that big of an improvement if the company isn't even promoting it on their website. Makes you wonder.

Here is how my first hour went. After purchase I had the software downloaded and installed with-in 20-30 minutes. Prompted by the first step of the welcome screen I began setting up my accounts. At first I wasn't sure what was happening because it would saying it's connecting and getting data. Then the screen would disappear and start all over. I Finally figure out that it has to access each checking, savings, or credit card account individually even though it's all under the same user account. So what appeared as being stuck in a loop / bug was really just poor programming design.

This purchase was a huge disappointment. The software is new and there were only nine reviews, but they were all extremely positive, so I felt confident taking the plunge. I was so excited in fact, that I paid a premium to download rather than wait for UPS. In retrospect, I should have paid more attention to the eerie similarity between the reviews, and in fact they were all from beta testers (shills?) perhaps working off the same talking points. The new version was supposed to run faster and work with twice the number of financial institutions. But this is not what I experienced. I was fairly content with Home and Business 2008. The only reason I downloaded 2011 is because I want to access certain accounts that 2008 cannot, such as my 401K with ADP, my kids 529's with New York State, and a savings/loan account with Sallie Mae. If you need the State version, be sure to get "TurboTax Total Tax Solution Premier 2005 with State".

If you have used TurboTax in the past, also be prepared for another major change to the interface. It's not bad, but some things, such as the hybrid vehicle deduction, are hard to find and can easily be overlooked if you aren't already aware of them.
